About Uganda Muslim Brothers and Sisters

Uganda Muslim Brothers and Sisters (UMBS) was started as a discussion forum in 2010 by a Ugandan Muslim, Abbey Semuwemba, based in the United Kingdom. The main aim at the time was to encourage all Muslims to come together and discuss anything on their minds. It was started with only about 200 members but gradually, however, membership expanded to more than 6000 people in different countries, and so the need arose for formal operational guidelines. UMBS is building itself to become the national umbrella organisation dedicated to the common good, to the betterment of the Muslim community and country. It was formed after several years of wide-ranging consultation and careful planning by a group of Muslims that discussed Islamic affairs online regularly. It intends to bring together all representatives of different Muslim organisations in Uganda to meet up on annual basis to discuss the affairs of Muslims in Uganda. The need to coordinate efforts on wider issues of common concern became apparent in the course of the feud that developed between Muslim leaders after the sale of Muslim properties in Uganda. This created a climate of distrust and non-cooperation between many diverse groups in the country.

Ka`aba Curtains Gifted to UN

Standard

Saudi Arabia gifted a piece of “kiswah”, or curtains, of the Grand Mosque in Makkah to the United Nation’s headquarter in New York, the gift deemed one of Islam’s most sacred items.

“I am pleased to join you to mark the reinstallation of this magnificent gift to the United Nations from Saudi Arabia,” UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said in a statement cited by Pakistan Tribe on August 1.

“We are honored that this example of cultural heritage and tradition is here with us at the United Nations.”

the piece was first presented to the UN in the early 1980s and sent to Makkah in 2014 as the Indonesian Hall, where the piece had been installed, needed to undergo renovation.

While back in Saudi Arabia, the piece also underwent maintenance work.

Made of pure silk and interwoven with silver threads covered with gold, the tapestry consists of nearly 50 black cloths and is decorated with verses from the Qur’an.

The Ka`aba kiswah is draped annually on the 9th day of the month of Dhul-Hijjah on the Islamic calendar.

Jesus Guided Me to Islam: Adebayor

Standard

adebayor
Almost a month after announcing his reversion to Islam, Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor revealed reasons behind his conversion, saying that similarities between the two faiths led him to the truth.

“Jesus (pbuh) taught that there is only One God and Only God should be worshipped as taught in Deut 6:4, Mark 12:29. Muslims also believe this as taught in the Qur’an verse 4:171,” Adebayor was quoted by The Herald.

Adebayor was talking about one of 13 reasons behind his decision to embrace Islam after being seen taking Shahada, or declaration of faith, in a YouTube video posted online last month.

Among the reasons behind his reversion to Islam was that prophet Jesus (pbuh) didn’t eat pork like Muslims who consider pigs and their meat filthy and unhealthy to eat.

Words like “As Salaamu Alaikum” (Peace be with you) and “God Willing” (InshaAllah), mentioned by the Qur`an, the holy book of Islam, had been always used by Jesus (pbuh), the Togolese footballer found.

“Jesus (pbuh) washed his face, hands, and feet before praying. The Muslims do the same. Jesus (pbuh) and other prophets of the Bible prayed with their head to the ground (see Matthew 26:39). Muslims do too as taught in the Qur’an verse 3:43,” Adebayor stressed.

“Jesus (pbuh) had a beard and wore a robe. It is Sunnah for Muslim men to do the same.

Standard

Friends,
As you are all aware by now, our longest cook at Kibuli S,S,Mr.Rwakambugu George William, popularly known as Mutooro, is retiring at the end of this year. I have spoken to the Headmaster, Kibuli S.S, Hajji Mugagga Ali, and we have all agreed that Mutooro deserves a meaningful send off. I know he was just doing his job, but I think its noble to give him something after dedicating 35 years of his life to not only cooking for students but being there for them and teaching us something about life. Yes, there was always something to learn from this gentleman about life!

I have been made to believe that Kibuli students and former students have always had a big heart when it comes to raising money for those less fortunate than themselves. By coming together, no matter where you live or your perception of Mutooro while still in school, you can be a part of something making our community a better place. So, please give and support this important effort. We will donate the money directly to Mutooro through the H/M, and together create a culture that best embodies our deepest religious and cultural values of compassion and love for the teachers.More so,these kind of causes kind of break down barriers between old students. QURAN APPEAL DONATIONS NEEDED FOR BUSIKI COUNTY

Standard

Friends:
Somebody at UMSC or any of our established Muslim organisations should look into this and donate Qur’ans to the people in Busiki county. Please let us know how it goes. Thanks!
————————————————————————————————————-

‘Dear Abbey,I work for the National Book Trust of Uganda. Our work is to promote authorship, publishing and a culture of reading.I am aspiring to be the NRM MP flag bearer for Busiki county in Namutumba district. The thrusts for my campaign include quality education, access to clean and safe water, access to health services and improving household incomes. So far, my team will be donating 30 wheel chairs which we got from Children International, crutches courtesy of Reaching Out with Hope; repair of boreholes courtesy of Voluntary Action for Development, science school textbooks courtesy of NABOTU etc. Our people have been living in a very dire situation and believe this is a good start to recovery.

My county is very rural with a sizeable population of Muslims. One of their unique challenge in spite of the literacy levels is the fact that they do not have Korans so they are dependent on the Imam for everything. As a person working in the publishing industry, I thought it would be a good idea to donate some Korans to the Muslim community in the county. So I searched on the web for some organisations in Uganda that do this and that’s how your organisation and name came up.

It will be great if you are in a position to donate these to my team and any other items that will help my Muslim voters. I await your reply.

WHY UGANDAN MUSLIMS LOVE IDI AMIN

Standard

Dear Friends,

The posting about Idi Amin by his son has inspired me to ask for help from members of this forum in respect of work I am doing. I am writing a tribute to Idi Amin tentatively entitled “Why Ugandan Muslims Love Idi Amin,” with the intention of developing it into a publishable book. The target of the tribute are the young Ugandan Muslims who are fed on lies about Idi Amin on a daily basis by those who hate him for political and extra-political reasons. My wish is to arm young Ugandan Muslims with the confidence to reject the intimidation by those who want to make them ashamed of associating with the name Idi Amin.

The work will be placed within the historical background of the country, and an attempt will be made to rebuttal some of the falsehoods against Idi Amin. But it is not intended to help Muslims to win arguments about Idi Amin, I just want to make the point that whatever his personal faults, and whatever others may say about him, Idi Amin genuinely loved the Muslims of Uganda, and used his position as President to lay a foundation that has made Uganda a better place for them than it would have been. The struggle for a better place for Muslims in Uganda must continue of course, but we must always remember that Idi Amin’s accession to power has helped to define this struggle, and to make it so much easier to continue it.

I am aware of the broader contributions by Idi Amin to the Ugandan society, and I will include in the preamble to this work, but my main focus is on his contribution to Islam and the Muslims of Uganda. My reasons are: There are people out there who are determined to generate hatred against Idi Amin. They will make all efforts to deny his contribution to the Ugandan society as a whole, but they cannot deny that Ugandan Muslims love him; and I want to help create/consolidate the love for him among the people he loved.

I need help from members of this forum that have any information about Idi Amin, however minute. Please feel free to tell me any story about Amin in whatever detail you want; tell it as you have heard it, it will be my duty to cross-check it before I include it in my write-up.

Below is a summary of some of the issues I am dealing with:

WHY UGANDAN MUSLIMS LOVE IDID AMIN

1) Idi Amin Positively Identified with Muslims and Islam
2) He endeavoured to unite the Muslims of Uganda, as seen in the starting of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council
3) He appointed Muslims to different offices in Uganda eg Headteachers, Commissioners, etc
4) Did dawa work by getting non-Muslims to convert to Islam at several mauledis and elsewhere
5)Inspired Muslims Politically by showing them that they could hold political office, including the highest in the land.
5) He looked for Scholarships for Muslims to gain Islamic and technical knowledge. The scholarships trained sheiks, doctors, accountants etc.
6) He inspired the knowledge revolution in Ugandan Islam that puts us ahead of all other Muslims in the region as far as Islamic knowledge is concerned. He is the inspiration behind the “People’s University” at Nakasero that sharpened Muslims in the knowledge of their religion beteen the 1980s and the 1990s.
7) Inspired the starting of Islamic Institutions like the Islamic University in Uganda, Kabukunge TTC, Muslim secondary and Primary schools.
8) Ruled that non-Muslim Headteachers should leave Muslim schools
9) Started the teaching of Islam at O and A Level
10) Participated directly in the building of Mosques eg in Yumbe, Bombo, Makerere University, Old Kampala etc

Some of the above points, if not all of them, will expand into whole chapters, depending on the information I get. You can help me to expand and illustrate them, raise new ones, and correct any faulty information; but most importantly, I am interested in the narratives. Feel free to tell me a story you have heard from someone else, I will cross-check it. It can be as simple as something he did or said when he visited a particular area or met a specific person. Also, if you have access to any written information that deals with Idi Amin’s contribution to Islam, send it to me.

You can post the information on my personal email (akiyimba@yahoo.com) or on this forum to generate further discussion. You can also call me or send sms on my phone: 0772-344316.

Newlyweds’ Guide to Marital Intimacy

Standard

Physical Intimacy is a highly important part of marital life. Like any other relationship, it develops and deepens as time passes. This takes some people longer than others. Often the harder you work at intimacy, the more valuable and rewarding it is.

The following are some steps that may help.

1- Take Your Time

As a newly married couple, you still have too many things to learn and discover about each other. Take your time to get closer and realize each other’s likes and dislikes in everything including sex.

2- Talk about Sex

Don’t keep your thoughts and desires in your head, It’s no secret now for your life partner! Explain your likes and dislikes, express your feelings and expectations and make it easier for your partner to understand your needs so that the relationship will develop quickly and both of you reap the benefits.

3- Hug, Kiss & Hold on Tight

Counselors and experts always emphasize the importance of having as much physical contact as possible on a daily basis. Couples might take this for granted, but as time passes, they find themselves sitting side by side typing on their laptops or mobile screens rather than holding hands.

Moreover, several studies show that the simple act of hugging for between 30 and 60 seconds increases levels of oxytocin, a hormone that acts as a neurotransmitter in the brain and contributes to a sense of attachment.

4-Make Time for Sex

After the honeymoon is over, life gets busy with daily routines and your To Do list gets more crowded, sending sex to the bottom. Once you’re living together it’s easy to assume that you can have sex whenever you want, and thus you don’t make time for it.

But if you don’t prioritize your love life at the beginning of your marriage, it’ll be harder to do so in the future.
5- Self Discovery

Learn about your sexuality. Figure out how and where you like to be touched and how to communicate that to your partner. This would certainly take time to be achieved but the benefits are incredible so, don’t give up and continue with your self-discovery!

6. Nurture Emotional Intimacy

Feeling understood, supported, and valued will make you both feel closer and therefore more receptive to physical closeness and more keen to please each other when it comes to your intimate moments.

7- Make It a Surprise

Avoid being too predictable, doing the same things in the same places. Try to surprise your spouse every now and then with a different look. Have sex in other rooms rather than your bedroom and try to be unpredictable.

8. Have Realistic Expectations

Don’t start your marital life with assumptions that everything will be perfect like Hollywood movies. Life is never perfect and we should appreciate the good things we have in order to reach a state of contentedness and inner peace.

Sometimes, sex is not perfect and this doesn’t mean you’ve got a big problem. It’s life. Don’t expect perfect sex every time. Even for the most happily married couples, more than 10 percent of sexual encounters aren’t even pleasurable for one or both spouses, Dr. McCarthy says.

9. The Eye Contact

Couples report they feel more attractive, more in-the-moment, and closer when they look into each other’s eyes during sex.
10-Stay Healthy and Fit

Exhaustion is the number-one reason long-term couples become less sexually active. Eat healthy and try to maintain a good level of work out on a regular basis.

What the Qur’an and Sunnah Say on Women’s Income

Standard

Indeed, all what a woman earns is considered her own income. However, she is best advised to share in the family expenses, especially in the difficult circumstances people live nowadays. It is true that whatever the wife makes is considered her own income. Allah Almighty says, “To men is allotted what they earn, and to women what they earn: But ask God of His bounty. For God has full knowledge of all things.” (An-Nisa’ 4:32)

It is also reported that the wife of `Abdullah ibn Masu`ud (may Allah be pleased with him) used to work and earn a living. One day she asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) if she could donate her money to her poor husband, to which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, “Yes, and you will be rewarded twice.”(An-Nasa’i)

Having said that and given the difficult financial circumstances that people face nowadays, it is advised that the wife contributes to the family by sharing some of the family expenses. Some scholars consider this as a compensation for the time the mother takes away from the family.

Allah Almighty knows best.

Can Women Put Their Photos on Facebook?

Standard

it is not allowed for a Muslim woman or adult girl to put her picture on her account on Facebook or the like as this is so dangerous that it may result in heinous sins and bad consequences.

It is impermissible (haram) for a Muslim girl or woman to put her picture on Facebook account, chat rooms or other websites, for a number of reasons:

1. This is contrary to covering and concealment that is enjoined upon women in the Qur’an and the Sunnah. Allah Almighty says concerning the noblest of women and the furthest of them from suspicion, namely the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), “And when you ask (his wives) for anything you want, ask them from behind a screen, that is purer for your hearts and for their hearts.”(Al-Ahzab 33:53)

“O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) all over their bodies (i.e., screen themselves completely except the eyes or one eye to see the way). That will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed. And Allah is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (Al-Ahzab 33:59)

And He forbade women to speak softly, as He says, “O wives of the Prophet! You are not like any other women. If you keep your duty (to Allah), then be not soft in speech, lest he in whose heart is a disease (of hypocrisy, or evil desire for adultery, etc.) should be moved with desire, but speak in an honorable manner.” (Al-Ahzab 33:32)

So Allah Almighty enjoined the wives of the Prophet (blessings and peace be upon him), and the Muslim women in general, to observe hijab, so as to purify the hearts of the believing women and to protect them from anything that may give rise to temptation or suspicion, and so as to preserve their chastity and that of His believing slaves. Once this is understood, it will become clear that for a woman to put her picture where it will be seen by righteous and evildoers alike on such websites is something contrary to Allah’s teachings.

2. This opens the door to fitnah (temptation) and evil for the woman and for those who see her. How often have we heard and read painful stories caused by such things! How many pure and chaste women have fallen into the traps of those who do not fear Allah; evildoers who have tempted them with sweet words and promises until, when they had had their way with them, they turned their back to them and abandoned them with nothing but regret and loss, and perhaps shame in this world and in the Hereafter, Allah forbids.

How many evildoers have tampered with those images and reproduced them by modern means, putting the head of a decent woman on the body of an immoral woman, then there will be great regret for what she brought upon herself and her family when regret is to no avail.

3. With regard to what you have mentioned about some women who wear hijab believing that putting their picture in hijab is not forbidden according to Islam, if what you mean by hijab is proper shar`i hijab that covers the face and does not show the face of the woman, then this kind of thing is not forbidden in Islam, especially when there is a need for it. But this is not what they mean, because there is no benefit in doing this. What is the point of putting a picture of a black shape in which nothing appears?!

But if what is meant is putting a picture of a woman with her face uncovered, even if she has covered the rest of her body, then we have explained that this is what leads to evil consequences that are sufficient to deem it forbidden. Even if we do not say that it is obligatory for the woman to cover her face; so how about if that is obligatory? The sin in this case is multiplied and the danger is greater. By doing that she has transgressed what the Muslim women have been accustomed to doing for centuries.

Imam Al-Ghazali (may Allah have mercy on him) said in Ihya’` Ulum ad-Deen (2/53), “Men throughout the ages have always had their faces uncovered and women have always gone out with their faces covered.” Something similar is found in Fathul-Bari, 9/337.

Al-Hafizh Ibn Hajar (may Allah have mercy on him) said in Fathul-Bari (9/424), “The custom of women in the past and more recently has been to cover their faces in front of non-mahram men.”

Moreover, if everyone who has any common sense realizes that the focal point of beauty and fitnah in women is the face, and this is what men want to see, and it is from this that it is judged whether a woman is beautiful or not, then publishing pictures in the mentioned manner opens the door to women to be tempted and to be a source of temptation, and for them and their pictures to be treated disrespectfully, as they will be visible to anyone who wants to see them.

And Almighty Allah knows best.

MUSLIMS PREPARE FOR THE 2016 ELECTION BATTLE

Standard

The election mood has been simmering over the past weeks in Uganda. The batteries for elections were charged after the founder of the biggest Muslim online network, Abbey Kibirige Semuwemba, asked Muslims and non-Muslims to support good Muslim candidates, that include: Katerega Ahmed Musaazi(NRM), Aisha Kabanda(NRM), Aisha Alibhai(Soroti), Ssemujju Nganda(FDC), Hussein Amin Jjuruga(Amin’s son standing for MP in Bombo) and others.

Soroti Municipality 2016 MP aspirant Aisha Alibhai completely quit Daily Monitor’s KFM radio where she was a presenter of the morning show D’Mighty Breakfast and Corporate Affairs Manager. Aisha said she is devoting most of her time to politics as she vies to replace retired Mike Mukula as Soroti Municipality MP.

Abbey has been fundraising for some of the candidates using platforms such as Ugandans At Heart. He asked Muslims to vote in such a way that their vote should not be divided. He warned them that Muslim candidates lost in the previous elections from Muslim majority areas, like Butambala, just because of too many Muslim candidates in fray. He asked Muslims to go into alliances with good non-Muslim candidates that are willing to protect their interests.

All the parties have realized the fact that every vote is going to count in these elections. Abbey said that after a split in the Democratic alliance and NRM, the margin is not going to be too large. Each vote is going to count and that is why every candidate is making effort to woo Muslims also.

The NRM which has ruled the state for 30 years has failed to make any impression on the Muslim community. A lot of Muslim sheikhs are being killed and the government has done nothing to bring the murderers for justice. All Muslim leaders in Uganda are now living under fear! One of the Muslim leaders, Sheikh Siraji Mwinyi, 63 in Nandala Zone, Rock Ward in Nakaloke Town council, got the shock of his life when a hired assassin tried to kill him at about 3:00am on Monday.

According to police, the scholars were killed by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a Uganda extremist group based in Congo, after refusing to join the alliance.

Ugandan Muslims comprise some 14 percent of the predominantly Christian country’s 32-million population, according to the CIA Factbook.

Six Beliefs of Muslims

Standard

1. Muslims believe in the ‘One-ness’ of God. That He shares His power and authority with no partners and no descendents. He is unique and we know Him by His divine attributes, such as ‘The Most Merciful’, ‘The Creator’, ‘The Eternal’, and ‘The Supreme’ to name but a few. He has knowledge of all things and to Him we will return to be held to account for all of the blessings He has given us in this life.

2. Muslims believe in the Angels that God has created. They are created from light, whereas humans are created from the soil of the earth. They are a separate form of creation than humans. Angels do not possess a free will as we do and are not subject to sin as we are. They are designated specific duties by God and fulfill them unfailingly. They are 100% obedient, 100% of the time. Humans on the other hand, are subject to sin and making mistakes. Human beings reproduce and have children whereas the Angels do not. They are neither male nor female. Human beings cannot become Angels after death.

3. Muslims believe in the revelations that have been sent by God to the people of previous nations. Examples are the Torah sent to Moses, the Gospel sent to Jesus, as well as the Psalms sent to David and of course the Qur’an, the final revelation of God to all of mankind sent to Muhammad. May the peace and blessings of God be upon all the prophets of God from Adam to Muhammad (peace be upon them).

4. Muslims believe that prophets and messengers have been sent by God, out of His infinite Mercy, to all nations throughout humanity at least once in their history. These prophets were the best models of faith and character of their communities and chosen by God to convey His Guidance. They are free from committing sins but were human beings, nonetheless, who ate and drank, slept and worked hard to serve God by fulfilling their missions.

5. Muslims believe in the Day of Judgment, which is a fixed point in time in the future where all of mankind will individually be held accountable by God for all that they did in this life. Injustices committed between people in this life that were not rectified here will be settled by God on that day. Everyone will receive the rights due to them from others and all debts will be settled. If our righteous deeds are accepted by God and outweigh our sins, God will grant us Paradise by His Mercy. If our sins outweigh our good deeds we face the possibility of the punishment of Hell-fire, unless of course God shows mercy on us and forgives us.

6. Muslims believe in the Divine Will of God and His Divine Plan. If good comes to us in this life, we recognize it as God’s Will and a blessing from Him. We do not let it cause us to forget that He provides us with everything we need. It is not merely our knowledge and skill that enable us to achieve good in this life. If misfortunes befall us, we also recognize it as God’s Will and a test of faith for us. We remain patient and do not lose faith or despair of God’s Mercy on us. Nothing can happen in this life that is against God’s Will. He is not subject to our actions at all; we are subject to His Will.

Much of what Muslims believe is common to people of Christian and Jewish faiths. How we put these beliefs into practice in our daily lives is what distinguishes us from others. Muslims practice their faith by implementing five simple but powerful forms of worship in their lives.

ARE U GOING THROUGH A HEARTBREAK RIGHT NOW?

Standard

There is never a one size fits all when it comes to love, relationships, falling in love, or marriage. Heartbreak after such a long relationship can often leave us as human beings feeling negative because we feel we have invested so much emotionally and the experience can often leave an individual feeling abandoned, rejected, not trusting others, and pessimistic about the hopes of a future relationship.

Hope and faith play an important role in overcoming a broken heart. As in every negative experience or situation Allah tests our faith and devotion to him. The moments that you reflect on this experience and you feel alone, this is a time to turn to Allah in supplication. The language of the Quran is a beautiful one. Its message can teach us many lessons to help us in healing emotionally after surviving adversity or when experiencing grief.

Allah says in the Quran in Surah 94 verses 5-8:

“Verily, along with every hardship is relief. Verily, along with every hardship is relief. So when you have finished, devote yourself for Allah’s worship. And to your Lord turn intentions and hopes”.

If you arent going through a heartbreak and you have got a good wife or husband, please pray to Allah to keep you both strong in your marriage,

Ahmed Katerega Fundraising Appeal

Standard

Friends,
Firstly, Jazakumullah and thank you to all those who have generously donated to the appeal above. The NRM parliamentary nominations are drawing closer and we can now begin to imagine UAH’s Ahmed Kateregga Musaazi as a member of Parliament for Kyadondo South. And as we continue with our debates on the forum, let us spare a thought for the melancholy plight of several UAH members(NRM and opposition) who are gifted with good brains and could be useful to our country, but don’t have the means to financially support themselves during elections. Apparently, one needs averagely shs.30 millions to campaign to become an MP. Therefore, a donation of whatever you can afford will help one of our own, Ahmed Katerega, to finance both the NRM primaries and later the actual campaigns. He reckons he will need the money mainly during the NRM primaries. So, its better we directly send it to him ASAP to enable him kick start his consultations as an aspirant.
MUSAAZI
Please don’t look at Ahmed as one of the ‘Nrm Terrorists’ but look at him as someone who will add value to our legislature, and as a brother in Islam, if elected as MP. There are so many people in NRM who see things differently from their chairman, but look at NRM as an easier way of getting themselves there.

Donations to this noble cause can be made by:
1- Mobile money directly to Ahmed Kateregga on: 256-772836537 and 256756836537;
2- Using money-gram, western Union or any other service available, and the recipient is Ahmed Katerega Musaazi. He will need an ID in the same names to get the money;
3- Contact him to meet you up to get your donation if you are residing around Kampala and surroundings. Please leave your name and email address or phone number when you pledge, such that Ahmed can contact you.

Yours humbly,

Not Allowed to Wear Hijab at Work: What to Do?

Standard

Wearing hijab (Islamic attire including head covering) is an important religious requirement mandated by the Qur’an. As a Muslim woman, your first priority is to please your Creator. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “There is no obedience to anyone in disobedience to Allah.” (At-Tirmidhi)

In other words, you are not bound to obey your boss if he orders you to disobey Allah. In Islam, we are not even allowed to obey our parents if they order us to disobey Allah. So, you don’t need to apologize for wearing hijab.

Since wearing hijab is a religious requirement in Islam, you are allowed to exercise this right in your work place. This right has been guaranteed by the Uganda Constitution. Your boss is not allowed to discriminate against you on that ground or force you to take off your hijab. If he does so, he is violating the laws of the land.

As a Muslim woman, therefore, you should never compromise your principles. If you cannot handle this issue by yourself, you may do well to get a letter from the Uganda Muslim Surprem Council(UMSC) or any of the Muslim lawyers. It should be enough to bring some sense to the mind of your boss.

May Allah grant you success in your struggle, ameen.

Allah Almighty knows best.

YOUR TALENT CAME FROM ALLAH ONLY!

Standard

The way we thank Allah for the talent He gave us is to use it properly according to His teachings. People of faith, like Prophet Sulaiman (peace and blessings be upon him) attribute everything they have to Allah and understand they are put to a test by Allah, saying: “This is by the grace of my Lord! to test me whether I am grateful or ungrateful! And if any is grateful, truly his gratitude is (a gain) for his own soul; but if any is ungrateful, truly my Lord is Free of All Needs, Supreme in Honor.” (An-Naml 27: 40)

On the other hand, people who have no faith attribute everything they have to their mind and intelligence. Qarun is an example of this as he said: “This has been given to me because of a certain knowledge which I have.” (Al-Qasas 28:78)

LEARN TO APPRECIATE WHAT PEOPLE HAVE GIVEN YOU

Standard

Ask a daughter-in-law, and she will tell you how it feels when the food she cooks is not appreciated by the new family. She is broken. Furthermore, when people make fun of what she made, she loses that confidence and courage that otherwise could have been instilled with few positive comments.

Basic phrases of ‘thank you’, ‘wonderful’ and ‘this is awesome’ can make a big difference in the life of others. So when a husband gets flowers for his wife or when a father gets a new pen for his daughter, don’t throw it away by saying ‘Oh, this is nothing. I was expecting something big, more precious’. Appreciate and thank the person who is putting an effort to make you happy. These are little gestures that are more valuable than the expensive jitters of life.

THANK ALLAH FOR EVERYTHING HE HAS GIVEN U SO FAR

Standard

Stop making excuses for important things. It is very funny to hear from people that ‘hey, my sister was over so I was unable to text you back’. Seriously? How long does it take to type a message? Similarly, how long does it take to thank Allah? It is just our way to have an easy way out of the situation by acting busy.

Wake up! It is time to face the truth. Try seeing life from different perspectives. You don’t like something; think about what you already have. You want something better; think about its absence in the life of the majority. Look at the brighter side in life and then see how everything becomes better

Stop complaining and assess situations from various angles. At times, it feels that the manner in which we behave is so wrong that we will pass on similar practices to our future generations.

Do we really want to see our kids snap back at us or leave us because of financial constraint? Or do we want such children who are flexible enough to accept with whatever they have? Sit back and take a look at your life. Make a change and start looking at the positive side of life. As soon as you incorporate this change, trust me, Allah will not only load you with many blessings, but you will also live a life full of satisfaction and happiness.

Good luck!

Smiling: Low Cost Medicine?

Standard

As Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) teaches us as Muslims,

“Your smile for your brother is charity.”

(Narrated ‘Aisha [The Prophet’s wife] -may Allah be pleased with her).

Biologically, a smile is a motion of muscle fibers made primarily by flexing the muscles at the sides of the mouth.

Do you think smiling is healthy?

Do you believe you smile and laugh a lot?

Should the 2016 presidential funding be diverted to Malaria Cause?

Standard

Malaria is a vector-borne disease caused by a particular “anopheles mosquito” that feeds on our blood and transmits malarial parasites: Plasmodium falciparum, P. vivax, P. ovale, and P. malariae into our bloodstream. When a person is diseased with either of the above parasites, symptoms like fever, nausea, vomiting, body ache, diarrhea etc. are visible within a week. The risk of malaria is higher in tropical regions with high temperatures.

Recent studies showed that malaria will increase with global warming as high temperatures are suitable for breeding of mosquitoes. Approximately half of the world’s population is at risk of malaria. Most malaria cases and deaths occur in sub-Saharan Africa. However, Asia, Latin America, and to a small part of the Middle East and several parts of Europe are also affected.

People who are frequently vulnerable to the bites of mosquitoes infected with P. Falciparum are most at risk of the effect being fatal and being infected from malaria along with people who have diminutive or no immunity.

Now, since the incumbent in Uganda isnt willing to compete with anybody in his party, and he is in control of almost all systems that determine a free and fair election, should we spend the money on next year’s presidential elections on prevention and cure of Malaria?

How Can I Show Gratitude to God?

Standard

Being grateful to Allah is not a simple thing. It is no doubt a pivot of our whole religion. Why then has Allah started His glorious Book — in Surat Al-Fatihah, which, as scholars assert, contains the secret of the entire Qur’an — with thanking Him: “Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds”? Why?

Why is it that our beloved master, the Prophet (peace be upon him), always started and also ended his sermons with it?

Why is it also the last prayer after the faithful enter Paradise?

Gratitude (shukr) is not only an essence of religion, it is, as a matter of fact, also a secret trait which the individuals who are of the highest rank and of the closest states to Allah possess. In fact, gratitude is so essential a value in Islam that, as the Majestic Qur’an narrates to us, it is the focus of Satan to deflect us from it:

{He [Satan] said: Now, because Thou hast sent me astray, verily I shall lurk in ambush for them on Thy Right Path. Then will I assault them from before them and behind them, from their right and their left: Nor wilt thou find, in most of them, gratitude} (Al-A`raf 7:15–16)

it was the Prophet’s way to always invoke a thanking prayer when he concluded a meal. It is truly interesting how the behavior of a believer, even with a simple blessing of Allah like that of food and drink, could elevate him to a higher rank.

Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah said:

“Truly, Allah is truly pleased with a servant eating a meal and thanking Him for it and swallowing a drink and thanking Him for it” (Muslim).

May this help us be among the selected few which Allah hails:

{Few of My servants are grateful.} (Saba’ 34:13)

Top 10 Reasons Why Marriage Fails

Standard

Marriage like any other relationship is never perfect. Even the best of marriages tumble. Most experts agree that the key to a successful and loving marriage is hard work, commitment and constant re-evaluation of our expectations in addition to how we communicate. Sounds easy enough, but in reality, it’s easier saying than doing.

1. I Love You…Now Change- This seems to be one of the biggest issues most couples face. Spouses so often try to change the other to a version that they would love more. The very qualities that were cute in the beginning turn into something that causes much resentment and contempt.

If you married a slob, he will not automatically change into a neat and orderly person because you want him to.The only person you can change is you. The best you can do is changing your response.

2.Talking VS Communicating- The most common misconception threatening marriage is that couples mistakenly believe that talking means communicating, that is, whenever they engage in talking, they believe they are communicating.

Voicing our complaints, criticism and emotional blackmail are not tools of communication. Learn to express your feelings with assertiveness and not from a point of complaint and criticism. This will help protect your marriage at a later stage. Effective communication means we listen and we are willing to see the world through the eyes of our partners, and not only our own. If we listen as well as we speak, real connecting would take care of itself.

3. Time Management- Modern lifestyle equals stressful lifestyle. Time is of the essence and many couples do not manage their time efficiently. Couples are pulled in all directions on a day-to-day basis except towards each other.

Quality time even if it is just five minutes a day, is an essential requirement of marriage. Couples need to regularly re-evaluate their relationship in a gentle and honest manner, if only just to know whether they are on the same page or not.

4. Intimacy-Sex is only a small part of intimacy. It is more about being fully engaged as a couple. Staying connected on every level. Spiritually, mentally, physically and emotionally. Most couples constantly face an uphill battle to keep the spark alive. Intimacy is not a goal that couple should seek but rather a journey, which lasts throughout marriage.

5. Turned Focus- The most frequent issue men seem to have is that the focus of the wife changes when the couple have children. It often leads to the husband feeling inadequate and neglected which in turn, leads to lack of intimacy. Couples also allow technology to interfere with their relationship; this is quite rampant with people texting at dinner, surfing the Internet in the evenings and using their smart phones constantly.

6. Money, Money, Money- Money is a huge issue. Marriages can often survive infidelity but money issues can be a dissolver of the marital union universally. Nadirah maintains that this issue is not uncommon in the Muslim household. It can be way at times for the insecure man to control the woman. In a two-income household, there is often resentment felt for the partner who earns more. This often leads to unhealthy competition.

7. Forgive Me; Honey- Forgiveness should come easy to a relationship based on mutual love. Not so for a majority of couples according to the experts. Unwillingness to forgive for minor offences (i.e. not unpacking the dishwasher, leaving clothes lying around) and major issues (i.e. accumulating debt) can affect negatively on a relationship. Most issues in a marriage can arise from a partner’s unwillingness to forgive each other. In marital life, forgiveness should be unconditional.

8. Lack of Appreciation- When appreciation is low, conflict is high. Lack of appreciation is often the root cause of infidelity in marriage. Couples tend to take their partner for granted. They mistakenly believe they will always be there. When two people feel 100% validated and appreciated by their partner, there is little room for conflict.

9. Emotional Affairs- These affairs are usually not about sex, but more an emotional intimacy shared with someone else rather than the partner.Learning to trust and be emotionally healed after these types of affairs can be incredibly difficult. Couples face a huge uphill battle, and it can be avoided if the partner learned to express their feelings and needs to their significant other.

10. Power Struggles- this is a huge issue in marriages as couples compete even spiritually to be on top of the relationship. Each partner tries to outdo the other and this can have disastrous effect if the couples do not know when or how to toe the line.

What Happened to Muslim Sunni Association Properties?

Standard

BY Farid Ramadhan

Assalaam Alaikum my Ugandan Muslim brothers and sisters,
I would like to extend my regards specifically to the Muslim brothers and sisters living in Uganda.

I may be here in the U.K, but my spirit is there in Uganda where I belong. I was born in Uganda and I lived there until the 1972 when I had to leave and start a new life here in the United Kingdom.
I am glad to note that since I left, there have been a number of positive developments within the Ummah in Uganda.

I am however disturbed by the fact that Muslim leadership wrangles continue to slow down Muslim development efforts.

I am also saddened by the continued murders of prominent Muslim personalities. This is unacceptable and I call upon all of you brothers and sisters to join hands with the government in efforts to catch the killers.

I am a former member of Muslim Sunni Association and the main reason for my getting in touch is to seek clarification regarding the current state of the properties left behind by the founders of the organisation.

Before we left Uganda, President Amin had put all the properties under the care of Uganda Muslim Supreme Council.

When the NRM government came to power under the leadership of President Yoweri Museveni in 1986, I am told he brought about a lot of changes which included a booming economy, better infrastructure, improved social services, modernization of agriculture, peace and stability etc.

I was very happy to also learn that immediately he assumed power as the President of Uganda, H.E Yoweri Museveni, ushered in peace and freedom of worship. As a result, associations, organisations and religious sects that had gone underground were revived.

I am told President Museveni personally made sure that the surviving members Muslim Sunni Association, Ismailis, Sikhs, Gowon etc. repossess the properties that they lost in the 1970s.

This shows that President Museveni is a true revolutionary who wants the best for all citizens regardless of their skin colour, religion or tribe.

I am delighted to learn that he has turned Uganda into a an investment hub where there are first class hotels, modern structures in and round Kampala, the best roads in the region, booming business all over the country and impressive social services especially in the area of education where I understand the NRM government has introduced UPE and USE.

If Uganda can achieve this in a few years yet countries like D.R. Congo, which are richer in resources, are still struggling, I can clearly state that with revolutionary leaders, Africa can develop with or without abundant natural resources. We should therefore salute President Museveni for his revolutionary leadership.
If all or most presidents, ministers, politicians, cultural and religious leaders in Africa were as revolutionary as him, Africa would be a much better place to live.

Unfortunately, this is does not seem to be the case especially in Uganda where I am told corruption has found a ‘home’ in some government, civil society and even faith leaders.
I am raising this issue because when Muslim Suuni Association repossessed its properties on the orders of President Museveni, it dedicated them to supporting Muslims in Uganda.

It was decided that the rent from the commercial properties be used to support projects like the Muslim girls school that was next to Alidina Visiram Mosque, Nakasero Mosque, Muslim welfare as well as the establishment of new commercial and social development projects.
Members of the Sunni Association were however branded racists and as a result, he then minister of Lands forcefully made Shk. Sulaiman Kakeeto one a Trustee in the association.

The founders of the association did not object to this because they were relieved that it was going to put the racism issue to rest. They also assumed that such a move would not affect their commitment that the rentals from the association properties would be dedicated to the development of the Ummah in Uganda.

I have however learnt from friends in Uganda that the properties which include Muslim Girls School, Nakasero Mosque, Clock Tower and several other properties in Kampala have been stolen or sold off.
I hope this is not true, because our fore fathers worked so hard to acquire these properties which were dedicated to supporting the Ummah in Uganda.

Selling the properties or stealing them would be equal to killing a cow that has been giving milk to Ugandan Muslims. This is a very cruel act and I wouldn’t imagine any Muslim believer or leader doing it.
Me and other concerned members abroad are therefore requesting anyone with information regarding the current status of these properties to share it with this forum or contact us directly on r.farid31@yahoo.com

We particularly appeal to Shk. Sulaiman Kakeeto, a Muslim Sunni Association trustee; to come out and clarify this to the Ummah.
Have the properties been sold off or stolen as alleged or not? Are they still in the names of Muslim Sunni Association or not? What happened to Muslim Girls School, Nakasero Mosque and all the shops around it? Who owns plots; 6 on Martin Road, 45,47,51 on Rashid Khamis Road, 1 on Berkeley Road, 88 South Street/Ben Kiwanuka Street, 4 Snay Bin Amiir Street, 2 block G Old Kampala road and many others including Clock Tower land which I remember was about 10 acres or more? Are Muslims benefiting from these properties as intended by the true owners?

These properties were given to Ugandan Muslims. Muslim Girls School in particular was meant to support the Muslim Girl Child education.
If anything happens to them, the trustees are the one to be held accountable. I therefore request all concerned Muslims in Uganda to help us and approach the trustees in search of the truth about these properties.

The Mufti of Uganda H.E Sheikh Shaban Mubaje should quickly take on this issue and make sure that these Muslim properties are in safe hands.

I have had the government has a body that fights corruption in Uganda. I request the President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to order an investigation into this matter because we are talking about properties worth billions of shillings.

Let them not go to waste when they can be rescued and be put to proper use as originally intended.
All we want is the truth.
Thank you

Does Vaginal Exam Invalidate Gynecologist’s Wudu’?

Standard

If you are wearing a glove or using other tools for the vaginal exam without directly touching the vagina, your wudu’ is still valid.

But if the skin of the palm of your hand directly touches your pateint’s vagina, it is preferable to make wudu’ again to be on the safe side; because the validity of wudu’ in this case is controversial.

A DIRECT APPEAL TO THOSE ASSASSINATING MUSLIM LEADERS

Standard

BY ABBEY SEMUWEMBA(abbeysemuwemba@gmail.com)

Please somebody should secretly pass on the following message to those killing Muslim leaders(I.e.those hired murderous bikers and those hiring):

”You’re killing Muslim leaders for nothing. You’re killing innocent people who should have been out there looking after their families. A lot of orphans are being created and this is hurting families and communities.Majority of these Muslim leaders don’t have enough money to pay you double for what you’re hired to do. They’re just a bunch of innocent Muslims who just wish to be left alone.”

”As assassins, you are caught up in this ancient war of societies but nobody should make you to be part of it.Our country has seen enough blood since Independence in 1962. You actions are holding the Muslim community hostage, and this is not good for everybody. Our society has become asocial, self indulgent and murderous but you should be champions of individual freedom instead of depriving it some people. You should be championing everyone’s Right to LIFE, LIBERTY, and The PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS.”

”The humane thing is to care deeply for the person they’ve sent you to kill, and not forgetting that the person sending you to do such a job will turn against you as soon as you finish the job. So, whatever he is offering you to murder someone, you wont live to enjoy it.”

”Let’s assume for a second that the men they send you to kill are not as innocent as I would like you to believe, but you shouldn’t forget that the victim: a) is still a human, with a chance at some kind of redemption; b) may not have committed the crime/s they told you he did; and c) should be dealt with in a way designed to either change his behavior, but not to simply murder him. Please , please, don’t take anymore lives. ASTRONOMICALLY SPEAKING, IDD IS ON FRIDAY 17TH JULY 2015

The day of Eid Al-Fitr falls on the first day of the month of Shawwal.

Yawm Al-Ro’ya, aka the Day of Observation, will take place during the sunset of Thursday the 16th of July 2015 (29th of Ramadan). Astronomers will look for the Waxing Crescent of the new month of Shawwal after sunset.

Astronomically, the Astronomical New Moon (conjunction) will appear on Thursday, July 16, at 1:24 UTC. The moon can be seen at that time with difficulty in South America; but easily in the Polynesian Islands of the Pacific Ocean.

This means that the month of Shawwal will start on Friday the 17th.

The only parts of the Islamic World which might be able to observe Shawwal’s Waxing Crescent on Thursday the 16th are some Muslim countries in West and East Africa. However, they can see it with optical aid only.

On Friday the 17th of July 2015, the moon can be easily seen in almost the whole world, except Northern Asia, Northern Europe and Northern Canada.

All Africa’s Muslim countries[Including Uganda] and most of the Asian and European Muslim nations will see the new moon with the naked eye with different degrees of difficulty.

Even though, some Muslim countries in Europe and Asia will have to use optical aid to observe the moon.

Some countries which will observe the new moon at the sunset of Friday, July 17, will start Shawwal on Saturday the 18th of July 2015.

The northern parts of the Muslim countries of Kazakhstan, Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, in addition to all the regions of the Muslim country of Sibir are the only parts of the Islamic World which won’t see the moon of Shawwal even on Friday’s sunset.

If you arent going through a heartbreak and you have got a good wife or husband, please pray to Allah to keep you both strong in your marriage, before Ramandan ends.

WRITING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF TOTAL CONFUSION

Standard

Ina Lillaahi Wa Inna Ilaihi Raaji’uun literally meaning, “Truly! To Allah we belong and truly, to Allah we shall return”. Among the news circulating in the media, is the gunning down of Shaykh Hassan Kirya (Rah) of the Kibuli based Muslim faction on the night of 30th June,2015. Last month (May), the Muslims mourned the death of Shaykh Wafula(Rah) of Mbale which came into play under similar murder techniques.

This brings the sum of shootings of Islamic clerics to two, in two consecutive months in just the first half of this year 2015. It’s another knockout punch to Muslim fraternity. This killing is probably anticipated to be an annex of assassinations of Dr. Muwaya of Mayuge and Shaykh Bahiga of Kibuli Muslim faction executed at the end of last year (2014).

Such inhuman acts leave Muslims in suspense and possibly phrasing thousands of questions in their minds. Who is behind these killings? When will these bloody acts come to an end? Are the lives of the remaining Shaykhs secure?…? …?…?…?….? …?…? Etc.

At first, it was Shk: Abdu Karim Ssentamu (2012) whose murder was linked to ADF by the IGP Kale Kayihura. Several killings of Shaykhs and Imaams in the central and Eastern Uganda prevailed. By the end of 2014, after Dr. Muwaya and Shk: Bahiga(Rah) deaths, the overall number of assassinations was seven. In his speech at both funerals, the IGP Kale Kayihura linked the violence to ADF.

In January 2015, Shk: Muhammad Kamoga and some of the shaykhs under the JAMU’IYYAT ADDAAWAH ASSALAFI umbrella were arrested as suspects basing on accusations by some group. Later on, raids were done in Busoga and men believed to be of ADF were besieged and put into jail as well. Fortunately, the master mind of ADF, Jamil Mukulu was arrested and is under custody. As Muslims, we used to speculate that having all the mentioned persons under government security custody; the deadly violence would be curbed!!!

However, the killings are perpetual and this raises concern of the highest degree among the Ugandan Muslims. The right sentiment to describe the situation is confusion.

The criminal Investigating Bureaus should fasten their sit belts otherwise convincing angry Muslims who were already tough at Shk: Bahiga’s burial, to be calm and patient may be tricky. Should we pray that Muslims don’t go berserk?
Sincerely speaking, these serial killings of nine shaykhs in just four consecutive years (2012 – 2015), more so, targeting towers of knowledge of Islamic affairs (scholars)!!!

Can the Muslims baptise these as the years of terror on the Islamic scholars? Or A puzzle of assassinations? Why not if every Muslim is bothered of the security of his or her Shaykh /Imaam? Uganda especially the Islamic society needs broad supplications if not thunderous incantations in this holy month of Ramadhan and we have culprits brought to book. As Muslims, we need to know these criminals terrorising Muslim scholars and justice should be enacted.

We are fed up of this cruelty and yet as per now there is no seeming effective step on ground to promise fruitful investigations.
May all the deceased Shaykhs have a light reckoning. Aamin. Aamin. Aamin.

COLD MURDER OF JEEMA SUPPORTER SHEIK HASSAN IBRAHIM KIRYA

Standard

We are yet again heart-broken by the cold murder of our historical supporter Sheikh Ibrahim Hassan Kirya. Like it happened before with our supporters; Sheik Abdul-Karim Sentamu and our Kampala party district leader Mustafa Bahiga, Kirya was shot at close range on June 31 at Bweyogere and died instantly.

In addition to being a strong pillar of the Muslim community, Kirya worked tirelessly in the inceptive days of JEEMA in 1996 and actively campaigned for our presidential candidate then, Mr Muhammad Mayanja.

Up to the time of his demise he has been offering vital inspiration to JEEMA—having been a close mentor and advisor of the party for many years.

We share our deep heartfelt pain with the family and friends of the deceased for this great loss.

May Allah accept his good deeds and forgive his shortcomings. Ameen.

2. IGP MUST RESIGN OVER SECURITY FAILURE

The nation will recall that as we mourned the demise of sheik Mustafa Bahiga in December last, the Inspectorate General of Police conceded failure in protecting the lives of Ugandans as so required by its constitutional mandate. It asked for forgiveness and Ugandans granted it.

At that time, the nation had been terrorized with the various methods by which sacred lives of Ugandans were claimed mysteriously. Countryside homesteads, especially in the districts of Wakiso, Mpigi and Masaka were drilled at night and occupants hacked to death, Schools and markets were set ablaze leading to loss of lives and property. Now for three years since late sheik Abdul-Karim Sentamu was murdered in the city center in 2012, it has become routine for Muslims to be killed at will.

Amidst this, the police have never successfully made any logical investigation into these crimes for the judicial system to determine a worthwhile deterrent against the authors of these crimes. The direction that this trend is taking, suggests that the current spate of murders is soon extending from the Muslim community to the Roman Catholic faithful, to the Anglican and the Pentecostals.

Therefore, no Ugandan is safe and Ugandans are cautioned not to view this as an exclusive problem of Muslims. They should give it a broader perspective and outlook to understand it as a national security threat.

Whereas JEEMA does not doubt the competency of the nation’s police career officers to conduct an investigation process into these crimes and save the lives of Ugandans, we believe this capability is undermined by the NRM government policy of militarizing and politicizing, the otherwise civil security agency that the policy force is globally meant to be.

For this reason, JEEMA is demanding that the IGP must resign with immediate effect and give way for career police officers to head the nation’s police force. We equally call upon Ugandans of all walks to join this clarion call from wherever they can; be it in a mass procession on streets of the capital city, Kampala and demand the resignation of the IGP, if it defies a diplomatic and civil procedure of doing it.

We would advise the current IGP to consider joining main stream political activities since, on many platforms he loves describing himself as a political commissar and indeed his priorities suggest the same.

3. RECRUITMENT OF POLICE CADETS

Lastly the current recruitment of police cadets calls for a serious review. After just a 9-months training course, without any prior policing experience, fresh university graduates become star-police officers and are deployed as station heads across the nation. Apart from demoralizing existing long-serving officers with even better academic qualifications; this policy is counter-productive to the general police force performance.

Yet often, the new cadet recruits are political cadres who direct most of the police resources, including the personnel strength in political-related activities. We, therefore, demand that priority for cadet recruitment in the police force must be changed from fresh graduates to long serving officers who possess the necessary academic qualifications. Fresh graduates must only be considered to fill deficiencies in case the number of existing officers is insufficient.

FOR GOD AND MY COUNTRY.

Thank you.

Same-Sex Marriage: Legal Does Not Mean Permissible

Standard

The ruling at hand is a historic ruling that changes the very legal definition of marriage in the United States and will potentially have an impact on many countries around the world.

There is a difference between a supreme court decision and a decision based on a democratic process. The justice system should not be a vehicle for passing legislation that has not been subject to public scrutiny, especially given the fact that judges are not elected officials.

Moreover, both partisan politics and the pressure of contemporary lobby groups whose values may not represent public values also undermine democracy and democratic oversight. Democratic processes are much more complex than a simple citizen polling exercise, which was claimed in the media to have supported the ruling. An issue of such great consequence should have been subject to a national referendum in order to credibly reflect the values of the majority and not just the interests of lobby groups.

The role of religion in defining right and wrong cannot be discounted as it continues to shape who we are and how we behave, America is no exception. To deny this would be to deny the source of many of our modern laws that prohibit certain behaviors, for example incestuous relationships, even though they may be based on consent.

In conclusion, same-sex marriage will remain an invalid and impermissible union from the Islamic point of view. Moreover, nothing in the Supreme Court ruling or the social and legal consequences that will result from it should compromise the rights of believers across all monotheistic religions to express and live according to their values. That said, I must reiterate that this position does not negate other Islamic values of tolerance, peace, mercy and kindness toward all.

There is no cause that justifies the murder of innocent people

Standard

Murder is murder. There is no cause that justifies the murder of innocent people. It is a cause of deep pain to Muslims when someone starts killing our leaders to render us leaderless. What will happen to the youths if they have nobody to guide them , and something like the murder of another leader happens again?….Those who murder Muslims today, will murder those who don’t comply with them tomorrow. They will one day turn against each other.
SHEIKS KILLED

Ugandan Muslims:Muslim community should wake up

Standard

Muvve mu kulisa ebijanjalo empiso or should I say okulya katonga nga ba sheikh batibwa. That is the Muslim community should wake up and stop playing around when sheiks are being killed.

The letter from the Christian leaders makes the same mistakes sheikhs and others are making, which is to focus on one angle and one angle alone that it is the government killing Sheikhs. It could as well turn out that. Indeed there may be some truths but it is not the entire story. Why do I say that? because the majority of sheikhs being murdered belong to the Kibuli faction.

But that too may be also strategic or decoy to create an impression of inter-rivalry. Which is to say it could be deliberate to create a diversion from the real motive. But that angle too should be added to the angle that it is the government killing Sheikhs.

The third angle is that the murders are being carried out by terrorists. How come IGP Kayihura never said anything about the suspects now in police custody in Kabete, Nairobi? The fourth angle is that some but certainly not all the sheiks are victims of robbery, they happen to be in the wrong place at the particular moment.

The fifth angle is that some of the murders could be due to family feuds, if you will settling scores.

So there you have it, 5 potential angles to focus on. Please convey to the Muslim community to be open minded if they hope to solve the murders. I have a feeling one of these days the murders will get nabbed ‘and the country may be shocked when the truth comes out.

IF I WAS MADE MUFTI JUST FOR ONE DAY TODAY 3RD JULY

Standard

Asalaam Alaikum,

Not that I’m even harboring ambitions of becoming one(Mufti). I’m a simple Muslim with a bit of ideas for that super executive role in Allah’s nominated deen. Too cut the long story short I would, without asking anyone direct all Khatwibs/Imams in the country to incorporate a special supplication to Allah (SWT) to prevail and expose the heartless perpetrators of such gruesome and cold-blooded murders of our Ullamat, using PREDATOR methods as seen a few days ago with the Killing of Sheikh Ibrahim Hassan Kirya (RIP). This is a “slow” but deadly genocide, weeding out serious Dae(s) and effectively inhibiting the growth of the Ummah.
Well I’m sure if the Catholic Church was the one facing such a challenge then at once the Cardinal would issue a directive to all Parish Priests and affiliates to do the needful.

Whether its the enemy within or external haters, the only Authority we trust can give us justice is ALLAH (SWT) and not his creatures, for you never know whats in their hearts.

To be a bit conservative with numbers; imagine just 2 million Ugandan Muslims who , by the way are fasting, supplicate and make Istigfaar, crying out to their Lord and Creator. No doubt we can achieve very serious results and we would surely see a CHANGE in status quo!

Lets stop looking up to IGP and President et al for a solution to our security challenges they are only human.

I think The Holy Month of Ramathan is a perfect platform for us to invoke our Creator for any issues out of hand.

ON A LIGHTER NOTE; “TETULI BAAVU MITWE GYAFFE GYE MYAVU” We can still join hands next Juma In Shaa Allah

“May Allah Grant the souls of the faithful departed eternal peace. Ameen”

Do Muslims in Uganda Have a Human Right to Life?

Standard

Article 22 Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, 1995 protects the right to life of every person in the following words:

“No person shall be deprived of life intentionally except in execution of a sentence passed in a fair trial by a court of competent jurisdiction in respect of a criminal offence under the laws of Uganda and the conviction and sentence have been confirmed by the highest appellate court.”

The intentional deprivation of life without a fair trial is a gross violation of human rights.

Despite this constitutional protection of the right to life, killing Muslims unlawfully in Uganda is no longer news. A growing list of Muslims shot dead since April 2012 includes: Sheikh Abdul Karim Ssentamu; Haji Abubakari Abbas Kiweewa; Sheikh Yunus Abubakari Mudungu; Sheikh Muhammad Maganda; Sheikh Abdu Jowali Sentunga; Sheikh Dactoor Abdu Kadir Muwaya; Sheikh Mustafa Bahiga; Sheikh Abdul Rashid Wafula; and Sheikh Ibrahim Hassan Kirya. Why kill Muslims???

1. Who is killing Muslims?

So far we are yet to establish beyond reasonable doubt who is killing Muslims in Uganda? We, however, know who has failed and/or ignored to provide adequate security to prevent further killing of Muslims in Uganda. We also certainly know who has arrested and detained Muslims so far without according them a speedy and fair hearing. We also know some history about killing Muslims in Uganda without meaningful accountability. Who killed Muslims in 1979? Who failed to prosecute those alleged to have been involved? Who has failed to release reports into investigations into killing of Muslims in Uganda? Why are investigations and reports into unlawful killing of Muslims not made open to public scrutiny?

2.Dear Muslims who is safe?

Based on the fact that several Muslims have been killed and so far no single report into the investigations of unlawful killing of Muslims in Uganda has been made public, it is reasonable to assume that Sheikh Ibrahim Hassan Kirya is highly unlikely to be the last one. Any other Muslim in Uganda could soon join the rather expanding list. We can, therefore, ask who is the next Muslim to be killed unlawfully and without accountability??? Are we just going to sit, listen to theories and watch? If not killed, Muslims may still be arrested and detained without a speedy and fair trial. Either way, there are reasonable grounds to believe that Muslims are less safe in Uganda today.

3. What action do we take?

We need to use all lawful means necessary to resist the on-going systematic and consistent killing of Muslims without accountability. This GENOCIDE – ‘killing members of the group’ with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a religious group (of Muslims), as such – must stop and whoever is responsible be held accountable regardless of official capacity. If necessary, we need to consider seeking international cooperation and assistance in carrying out credible investigations into what appears to be genocide and systematic killing of Muslims in Uganda.

“It is very unfortunate that we [Muslims] are quiet and simply engaging in premeditated differences, when the enemy is striking hard on us. We need to unite our voice and put government to task to stop the terror against Muslims community, because currently it is taking advantage of our weaknesses to mismanage the terror on us,” Sheikh Muhammad Kamoga said, 12 January 2015. http://www.monitor.co.ug/News/National/Police-on-spot-over-detained-sheikhs/-/688334/2586086/-/111e7pk/-/index.html

Uganda parliament has been ignoring Muslim murders in Uganda!

Standard

Sheikh Rugo was killed in the same way in Tanzania as the Uganda Muslims.

Sheikh Rugo was killed in the same way in Tanzania as the Uganda Muslims.

In another Islamophobic crime, another prominent Sheikh was murdered yesterday in Uganda while on his way back to his home, facing the same fate of 8 other prominent Sheiks whose death has shaken the Muslim world, amid apparent absence of parliamentary involvement. None of the members of the parliament has tasked the police to come and officially explain these murders.

A lot of non-prominent Muslims are being killed in a similar fashion in Busoga, according to Ahmed Wetaka, though its never reported in the media.

Kirya was shot dead by two gunmen riding on a motorcycle at around 11pm when he stopped to buy groceries at a stall below the Kireka flyover on the Northern bypass.

The gunmen also shot a turn man in a truck that was parked near Kirya’s vehicle as they fled from the scene. Both Kirya and the turn boy whose identity hasn’t been released yet were rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital.

”Muslims in Uganda have lost a young and hardworking Sheikh who once served on the UMSC Executive committee.” wrote Hajji Nsereko Mutumba on the UMBS forum.

”The death of sheikh Kirya is a real shock to me. Simanyi kyakwogera coz I was with him on Monday. I was feeling depressed so he brought chocolates and cheered me up. I can just say Innalillahi wa innalillaihi raj’uun. Allah amusonyiwe ebyamusobako. And I wish justice can be served this time,” Rehma Namaganda told UMBS forumists.

”It has been a sad evening. Sad, because another Sheik has been shot dead in Uganda, and we already know what Gen.KK is going to say and do afterwards. Sheik Kirya was a happy guy, and a regular member of the UMBS forum I manage. It’s sad the way he has gone,” the UMBS founder commented too on Sheikh Kirya’s death.

Another Prominent Muslim Sheik, Imam Kasozi, wrote:”Who is killing the Muslims? Dear Muslims who is safe? What action do we take?”

Muslims make around 10 percent of Uganda’s 35 million population, and Islam is the number one non-Christian faith in the country.

Getting Ready for Marriage?

Standard

The beautiful Quran teaches us:

{They are your garments and you are their garments…} (2:187)

The verse explains that spouses are like garments to each other because they provide one another with the protection, the comfort, the cover, the support, and the adornment that garments provide to humans.

It likens our spouses to garments meaning it provides us with the same level of comfort, protection, cover, and support in the journey of our lives on this earth as garments would do on a cold and unprotected journey.

All is well and good, but when push comes to shove, we, as Muslims, must be honest and evaluate the reasons behind our engagement.

As parents of brides and grooms to be, we must prepare our children in order to learn and realize that marriage is no game but rather a moral safeguard as well as a social building block. Through marriage, families are established and as Muslims we realize that the family is considered to be the fundamental unit of our society.

“Five Languages of Love” by Dr. Gary Chapman

Standard

“Five Languages of Love” by Dr. Gary Chapman which explains that each person has different love ‘languages’ that the spouse needs to understand in order to have a happy marriage.

The languages are:

1.Words of affirmation which can include things like telling your wife that you appciate all of her work during the day to ppare iftar and perform other duties while she is fasting.
2.Acts of service which can include helping her around the house and with the children, if you have any.
3.Receiving gifts which can be very simple – even a ‘thank you’ note counts.
4.time: with Ramadan being so busy, try to leave aside even 10 minutes where you can connect and review the day with each other.
5.touch: this is the final one and is not limited to intimacy but includes even a pat on the shoulder that can mean a lot to a woman.

May Allah bless your marriage and enable you to live the Prophet’s hadith: “The best of you are those who are best with their families, and I am the best with my family.” (Tirmidhi)

IS IT NECESSARY TO REVEAL ALL YOUR PAST TO YOUR PARTNER?

Standard

SOMETIMES, it is wiser to withhold information for the betterment of the situation. It is better not to tell than to think you have to because you are being dishonest. Think about it like this: there is a difference between literal truth and heartfelt honesty. Literal truth can still cause pain and harm. If you tell your husband or wife everything, you are sharing all the literal facts of truth but will potentially damage your relationship. Upholding true Truth (Al Haqq) is to honor reality with honesty, wisdom, beauty, and all other virtues. This is why Islam is the Truth, because it contains a complete package of practicing virtues including honesty, warmth, and kindness. Sometimes, it is more truthful to cover than to reveal.

The Day of Judgment is going to be so heavy and momentous on every single soul that no one will care about anyone else. Your husband will not find out about your life secrets nor will you of his. Each of us will have our own secrets revealed, and we must account for it – alone. Each of you will be in the ultimate presence of God, drowning in your own accountability. In short, there will be no communication between you two.

„And fear a Day when no soul will suffice for another soul at all, nor will intercession be accepted from it, nor will compensation be taken from it, nor will they be aided.” (Quran 2:48)
